Installing A Pet Door

Once a homeowner has purchased there new door and it has been delivered, the next stage for them is to install the door, depending if your are just replacing an existing door or installing a new pet door the steps your will need to follow will be a little different, but before your being to install a new door please visit our Measuring Guide page to work out the correct height your need to install your door.

New Pet Door Installation:

Before you being to install your new door we highly recommend that your read the installation paper work what would have been include in the box, our come back to our web site and watch the video for the Ideal Pet door you have purchased from us, you can always find these on the product paper for the model of door you have.

Tools Required For Installation:

While the tools list below is intended as a guide we always recommend you refer to the instruction that came in your door box to make sure you do not need additional tools not mentioned here.

Installing Your Door

As mentioned instruction can vary from door to door but this guide should provide you with an understand the installation process.

(1): The first thing you will need to do is measure the height your door will need it's bottom edge to be from the ground and make a mark with your pencil. Next with your level draw a straight line alone this bottom line.

(2): Place the template that came with you door along this line and on the top of the template put a piece of masking tape in the middle.

(3): Now using your level take sure that your template is level in the horizontal and vertical then place a piece of masking tape on each corner and the top and sides to hold it in place.

(4): Based on the pet door makers instruction your will either draw around the template or drill holes in designated area, generally these are in the corner areas.

(5): Once the guide holes are drilled, draw a straight line to connect these holes using your level, the proceed to cut along the lines with your jigsaw.

(6): From this point you will place the door into the newly cut opening and install bases on the instructions that came with your door.
